Staying Active over the Holiday Season

It's that time of year.. again! Last I checked, I think it was August. The second half of the year has flown by.

At this time of the year, the drinks are flowing, there's an abundance of food and lots of catching up with family and friends. It can be the time of year where people start to feel a little bit guilty about eating or drinking too much and not keeping up with their exercise plans.

So here are some ways to feel better about yourself during the holidays.

  1. Try something new You have time off during the holidays so utilise it! One thing I'm going to do this holidays is go and learn how to throw a perfect spiral pass (NFL Football). This will keep me active and engaged for hours. Easy way to feel good about myself and stay active!

  2. Get yourself a piece of gym equipment Perfect if you receive any kind of gift vouchers! (Hopefully to a sporting goods store). Buying a piece of gym equipment can at least help you move a bit more during the holidays as you learn to use it and or try different things. One thing I'm playing around with at the moment is adding more resistance bands to my workout to help overcome lifting plateaus. Cheap too!

  3. Stay away from the sugary stuff! There will be plenty of delicious freshly cooked food at this time of the year! Roasted veggies are what I look forward to.. even on a hot day! So try and stay away from the sugary stuff that you know does nothing for you!

  4. Catch up with friends for some exercise Call up those friends of yours that you can rely on. Ask them to meet at a local park or leisure centre (if you want to fork out some $$) and play some sport, do yoga, exercise or even just a nice long hike! You never know it might turn into a regular thing?

  5. Get some new workout gear This is by far the best motivator! When you get an awesome new workout shirt (or pants) you want to show them off! So why not get some new gear and use that momentum to get you exercising. Pretty sure someone will comment on how cool your gear is too!

These are quite simple ideas. But easy enough to implement! You shouldn't feel guilty about exercise at this time of the year, so make it fun! Go out, enjoy yourself and challenge yourself in new and exciting ways!
